MoA to restart the National Agriculture Fair

The Ministry of Agriculture earlier today, February 1, 2021, announced its intention to restart the National Agriculture Fair. The fair was last organized in Tubmanburg, Bomi County in 2008.

Liberia’s Agriculture Law, enacted in the 1970s, mandates the MOA to hold an annual National Agricultural Fair to showcase agriculture produce grown in the country.

This year’s agriculture fair, according to MoA, will be held at the Central Agriculture Research Institute (CARI) in Suakoko, Bong County under the theme, “Investing in Agriculture for Prosperity & Development” The agriculture fair will kick start on Friday, February 12. It is expected to end Sunday, February 14, says MoA.

The fair, MoA press release states, is an excellent forum to assess the food and tree crops grown in Liberia. Additionally, operators along the agriculture value chain are expected to be awarded.

The fair also welcomes agriculture concessionaires, development partner financial institutions.

Additionally, MoA will collaborate with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, State for Presidential Affairs, Gender, Children and Social Protection, and the Cooperative Development Agency.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Jeanine M. Cooper has charged Precious Tetteh, Deputy Agriculture Minister for Administration to lead the coordination and planning of the fair.

She further disclosed that the President of Liberia, George M. Weah is expected at the agriculture fair.
“His Excellency, President George M. Weah, places enormous importance on driving Liberia’s agriculture sector as a major engine of growth and he will interact with farmers and stakeholders at the Fair to work out means of moving the sector forward.”
